Documents are the foundation of Framework. Upload your construction PDFs — specifications, drawings, RFIs, submittals — and the AI will process them so you can search and ask questions about their content.
How to Upload
- Click the Documents (folder) icon in the activity bar.
- The Documents sidebar opens with an upload zone at the top.
- Drag and drop one or more PDF files into the upload zone, or click “click to browse” to select files from your computer.
- Files appear in the upload queue with a blue highlight.
- Click Start Upload to begin processing.
Supported File Types
- PDF — Specifications, drawings, submittals, RFIs, reports
- Word (.docx) — Letters, meeting minutes, memos
- Excel (.xlsx) — Schedules, logs, tracking sheets
- AutoCAD (.dwg, .dxf) — Drawings and details
Tip: PDF is the most reliable format. If you’re having issues with other formats, try converting to PDF first.
What Happens After Upload
After you click Start Upload, each file goes through several processing stages:
- Uploading — The file is uploaded to secure cloud storage.
- Compressing — The PDF is optimized for AI processing.
- Analyzing — AI reads the document, identifies sections, and extracts key information.
- Indexing — Searchable sections (blocks) are created so the AI can find information quickly.
A progress bar shows the current stage with a time estimate. Most documents process in 3–8 minutes depending on size and complexity.
AI Processing
During the Analyzing stage, Framework’s AI:
- Reads every page of the document.
- Breaks the content into searchable sections called blocks.
- Identifies the document type (specification, drawing, submittal, etc.).
- Extracts metadata like section numbers, titles, and key terms.
Once processing is complete, the document appears in the document tree, automatically categorized by type.
Multiple File Uploads
You can upload multiple files at once — just drag and drop several files into the upload zone. Each file is processed independently, so you can continue working while files are processing in the background.
Upload Tips
- Don’t close the browser during the upload stage. You can navigate away within Framework while processing continues, but closing the browser will stop an in-progress upload.
- Larger files take longer — A 500-page specification will take more time than a 10-page submittal.
- Upload early — Upload all your project documents at the start so they’re ready when you need to ask questions.
