AI Tools Reference

Framework’s AI uses specialized tools to find and process information from your documents. You can see these tools in action through the transparency display while the AI is working.

Available Tools

Tool What It Does
Search Documents Searches across all uploaded documents for content related to your question. Returns relevant sections with page references.
Read Document Reads specific pages or sections of a document to get the detailed content needed to answer your question accurately.
Create Note Creates a new project note with formatted content (only available in Act Mode).
Edit Note Updates an existing project note (only available in Act Mode).
List Notes Lists existing notes in the project to find the right one to update.

How Tools Are Used

When you ask a question, the AI automatically decides which tools to use. A typical workflow:

  1. The AI thinks about your question and decides what to search for.
  2. It uses Search Documents to find relevant sections across your project.
  3. It uses Read Document to read the detailed content of the most relevant sections.
  4. It composes an answer with citations pointing back to the source material.

For complex questions, the AI may use tools multiple times — searching different terms, reading multiple documents, and cross-referencing information before providing its final answer.

Tool Execution Cards

While the AI is working, you’ll see tool execution cards in the chat that show which tool is being used and what it’s doing. These cards include the tool name, its parameters (e.g., search query), and whether it completed successfully.
