Every AI answer in Framework comes with citations — clickable references that take you directly to the source material. This is a core design principle: you should never have to take the AI’s word for it.
How Citations Work
When the AI finds information in your documents, it includes a citation marker (e.g., [1]) in its response. Each citation points to a specific document and page.
Clicking a Citation
- Click any citation marker in the AI response.
- The referenced document opens in a new tab in the main viewport.
- The PDF viewer automatically scrolls to the exact page cited.
- Read the source text yourself to verify the AI’s answer.
Page-Level Accuracy
Citations reference specific pages, not just whole documents. When the AI says “According to Section 03300, the concrete strength shall be 4000 PSI [1],” clicking [1] takes you to the exact page in the specification where that requirement appears.
Multiple Citations
A single response may include multiple citations from different documents. For example, the AI might cite both the specification and a drawing when answering a question about structural requirements. Each citation opens its own tab so you can cross-reference between sources.
Working with Open Tabs
After clicking a citation, the document stays open in a tab. You can:
- Switch between the chat tab and document tabs to cross-reference.
- Open multiple cited documents simultaneously.
- Keep documents open while asking follow-up questions.
Tip: The AI is aware of which documents you have open in tabs. This context can help it provide more relevant answers.
